Almost €780,000 for Clare in latest round of Town and Village Renewal Fund – Crowe
- Funding to be divided between six projects
- Aims to help communities respond to Covid-19 crisis
Fianna Fáil TD for Clare Cathal Crowe has welcomed the announcement of €779,242 in funding for Clare under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The funding will assist towns and villages to implement measures that can help them to respond to the challenges associated with COVID-19 and the allocation for Clare is part of an overall €15.4 million nationwide announcement.
In this round of funding, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Kilfenora have each been granted €200,000; €100,000 will go to Parteen; €99,000 has been allocated to Clooney while in the region of €90,000 each will go to Lisdoonvarna and Barefield.
“Various communities in the county had been in contact with me to push their local projects and I’m thrilled to see six very worthy ones achieve success in their applications under this scheme,” said Deputy Crowe.
“One in particular that I can relate to is the school road in Parteen I drove it for 15 years going to and from school.
“I was continuously alarmed that children tried to walk and cycle that road on their way to and from school putting their lives at risk.
“I’m delighted to see that €100,000 has been included for the installation of a footpath to increase safety for both pedestrians and drivers there between Larkin’s Cross and the village.
“Of course, huge credit must be given to the people in the community groups not only in these six locations but in every community in Clare who applied for the funding, who spent time putting together their applications in the hopes of securing a grant.
“We must also acknowledge the hard work of the council staff in the Rural Directorate, who do so much of the heavy lifting when it comes to the Town and Village Renewal Scheme – without them, there’s no doubt that Clare would not have fared so well in this round of funding.”
